Wakulla County Approves the FY2019/2020 Budget

On September 23, 2019, the Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners approved the FY2019/2020 Budget at $93,484,593 and the Millage Rate was set at 8.0000 mills.

The Board held a total of three budget workshops and one public meeting leading up to the adoption of this final budget.  The Preliminary Budget was turned over to the Board on July 15, 2019.  Some highlights of the FY2019/2020 Budget include:

  • Funding to continue the current level of service and operations for all County offices;
  • 2% Cost of Living Allocation for County employees;
  • One Cent Sales Tax funding for improvements at the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, Woolley Park and Rock Landing Dock; 72 self-contained breathing apparatus for Fire Rescue; a new ambulance; and road paving in Wakulla and Magnolia Gardens;
  • Funding from FDOT for road resurfacing projects on Smith Creek Hwy., Andrew J. Hargrett Rd., Wakulla Springs Rd., Aaron Strickland Rd., Old Woodville Rd., East Ivan Rd. and Surf Rd.; and
  • Funding from the Northwest Florida Water Management District to continue sewer expansion in portions of Wakulla and Magnolia Gardens.

“There are so many exciting infrastructure projects going on in Wakulla County now. The FY2019/2020 Final Budget reflects those projects and improvements. Our County continues to grow, and our services and facilities must grow with it while still focusing on fiscal discipline and sustainability. This budget includes almost $33 million in grant funding from other government agencies. That grant funding is critical to our County’s success and helps to keep the burden of funding construction and infrastructure projects off the citizens.,” said County Administrator David Edwards.
